Why Does My Makeup Look Dry At The End Of The Day

There have been many times when you have spent your entire day outside or at work, and when you come home and take a look in the mirror you tend to find that your makeup seems to have dried out. You dont realise during the day and that’s only because your busy, or you forget to pop into your local beauty store to seek some advice.

The reason why your makeup can look dry at the end of the day is because you will need to have a hydrating skincare regime, if you use the wrong products for your skin type you will have drier skin. Also exfoliate your skin at least twice a week to keep your skin texture smooth and supple.

Using The Wrong Face Wash

Using a daily face wash is a must, face washes usually remove any dirt, oils and makeup. It’s important to use a face wash that isn’t too harsh on the skin, this can cause the skin to become dry after a few uses.  Harsh face washes will strip any oils that the skin may have which will make the skin very dry.  When makeup is applied on top of this type of skin it can make your makeup look and feel dry.  In order to avoid this it’s important to look for a suitable  face wash that will help balance your skin type.

For dry skin types: Look at using face washes that are more hydrating, this can also include cream face washes which will provide additional hydration to the skin while cleansing it. Look at using face washes that are suitable for dry and sensitive skin types to prevent any hydration

For normal to combination skin: It’s a good idea to look at a face wash that will hydrate and balance this skin type.

Using Products With Alcohol

When using certain skin products it’s important to avoid using products with alcohol. This will dry out the skin and can even cause more irritation. If you suffer from sensitive skin then it’s best to avoid using products with alcohol because it will further dry the skin and irritate. Instead look at products that are alcohol free so that it doesn’t dry out the skin.

Not Exfoliating Regularly

Exfoliating the face should be a part of a regular weekly skincare regime, If the skin isn’t exfoliated then there will be a lot of problems with the skin. The first reason would be is it removes any dead skin cells that may be sitting on the surface of the skin.

When the skin isn’t exfoliated properly your moisturizer and makeup wont sink into the skin, In fact, it will cause your makeup to cake because the dead skins create an uneven surface for your skin, if the skin isn’t exfoliated it can cause your makeup to look patchy, uneven and dry looking.

Weekly exfoliation is necessary so that the skin looks healthy and allows your skin care and makeup to glide onto the skin much smoother.

How to make your own exfoliator:

1 table spoon of oatmeal

2 table spoons of honey

When using this home made exfoliator it’s wise to use it in a circular motion because this will remove dead skin cells while hydrating the skin.  This exfoliator should sit on the skin for approximately 10 mins so that the honey can hydrate the skin, the honey will help hydrate and give the skin a beautiful glow. The oatmeal will help remove and exfoliate or remove any dead skin cells.

Not Using The Correct Skin Care

When using skin care it’s important to receive all of it’s benefits, when using the wrong skin care this will cause your makeup to look drier at the end of the day. If your using skincare that is oil- free this can cause your skin to become drier.  Oil free skin care will usually help absorb oils that may surface which will make the skin drier, this is only suitable for oily skin types. If your skin isn’t oily and your using oil-free products this can cause your skin to dry up.

Instead if your skin type is:

Normal skin types: Look at products that can balance your skin type which hydrates it and balances out the skin.

Dry skin types: For drier skin types look at products that are more hydrating and richer in moisture so it can restore the skins moisture.

By implementing the correct skin care to your daily skin care regime, it will balance the skin and allow your makeup to prevent the skin to be less dry at the end of the day.

Using The Wrong Type Of Makeup

Just like skincare when it comes to applying certain makeup formulations it may dry out the skin and make it look dry at the end of the day. When using certain makeup formulas that are oil free it can also help either absorb the oils on the face which will make it look drier.

Try to avoid using products that are mattifying because there will be no hydration in the formulation. Instead look at more hydrating formulas such as creams, liquid and gel formulations. Cream and liquid formulations usually provide the skin with hydration giving the skin a more hydrated look.

Gel formulations usually have more serums in them which will help deliver more hydration to the skin while applying makeup to the skin smoothly.  Always look at a dewy finish with your makeup because it will ensure more hydration.

Setting The Makeup Correctly

When setting the makeup it’s important to set the makeup correctly because this will determine how it will look at the end of the day.  After setting the makeup with a translucent powder make sure to look at a setting spray that will give a dewy finish. If you use a matte finish setting spray it will absorb all the oils on the face which can cause the makeup looking drier.

This usually depends on your skin type if you have a drier skin type then using a matte finish will make the makeup look drier. For dry to normal skin types look at using a dewy finish setting spray so that your makeup can look more hydrated throughout the day.

Conclusion

In conclusion, when it comes to your makeup looking dry at the end of the day it can be for many different reasons. The first thing to always remember is to make sure your skin care is in check. Always determine your skin type and what skin care regime is suitable for it so that the skin is always balanced.

Also remember to include weekly skin care regimes which can help change the texture of the skin. Certain formulations in skin care products can play a huge part in how the skins texture can look and feel throughout the day. It’s important to know what ingredients will help the skin rather than contribute to it dying out.

The mission is to make sure the skin is hydrated and smooth as possible so that when makeup is applied to the surface no textures will be accentuated. When applying makeup it’s also important to look at hydrating formulations that will help and add hydration to the skin instead of making the skin look more drier. By adding and understanding certain factors with skin care and makeup this can change the way your makeup will look at the end of the day. Adding more hydration to the skin would be ideal for your makeup not to look dry at the end of the day.
