When I first got into beauty and makeup, just like most people my first fascination was how your eyes could really stand out with using an eyeliner. They say our eyes are the doors to our souls, I loved the way I would see other women’s eye’s really standing out and always questioned how they were doing it.
Over time I began to come across different types of eyeliners which I really didn’t understand, again another question I came to was Why are there so many different eyeliners?
I started to pay visits to your local Sephora’s, MAC, any place that sold beauty products and I would go through all the different various eyeliners and see how they would turn out when I would swab them on my hand. Since there were many different colors aswell I would play around with them and begin to buy them on a regular basis.
The next step that I found to be a challenge was how to apply the eyeliner to my waterline without smudging it. I’ve written this article to hopefully address this problem that I have been having and many other’s have been having aswell.
The Four Different Types Of Eyeliners
During my time and experience with playing around with different eyeliners, I had a common problem with a lot of them, where each time that I would apply the eyeliner onto my waterline it would always smudge, which after a while can be annoying and frustrating. It certainly becomes really embarrassing when you do look like a raccoon at times of the day when it either accidentally smudges or something happens where it does smudge.
At times when it does smudge, it looks as if you don’t even know how to apply makeup to your face correctly and you can become a laughing stock
Again I tried so many different eyeliners that made a lot of promises but never fulfilled through, I also found that every eyeliner I tried each one of them had a different purpose for a different reason, but I did find that if you did not apply the eyeliners correctly you would end up being a complete hot mess.
From my own personal experience, I found that if the eyeliners were of good quality they really do work, and play a vital role in the eyeliner staying on your waterline.
I found four types of eyeliners in the marketplace, they were a liquid eyeliner, Pencil eyeliner, Gel Eyeliner, and a Powder eyeliner (cake eyeliner).

Liquid Eyeliner
The liquid eyeliner this is where it’s an opaque liquid, it comes in a small bottle with a twisted lid with a small sharp-tipped brush attached. The reason for the sharp-tipped brush is that it creates a clean, precise line. With liquid eyeliners, they give a heavier appearance and make your eyes really stand out.
Pencil Eyeliner
This is a wax based eyeliner which is softer and contains waxes that make it easier to apply. With wax based eyeliners or pencil liners, they can come in a cone or a compact with brush applicators. You do get a variety of intense colors and some paler shades aswell.
Gel Eyeliner
This is where the eyeliner is a lot softer, it can be easily applied with an eyeliner brush, the beauty is that it can be precisely applied and its much softer then Kohl or powder eyeliner.
Powder Eyeliner (Cake Eyeliner)
This is known as the cake eyeliner, this is a compact and water-based eyeliner, it is a powder that is highly pigmented and it can be applied with a damp brush.
What I ended up finding out was that if I used these four eyeliners in a certain format I would never end up having raccoon eyes.
How To Apply Eyeliner To Waterline Without Smudging
When I discovered the four eyeliners that I mentioned above it made my life a whole lot easier and certainly made it a lot more frustration free. During my time using different eyeliners and finding the ones I mentioned I learnt a lot about my own eye, since our eyeballs have this natural watery effect which keeps our eyeballs moisture, sometimes on cold days your eyes can fill up with water due to the level of cold, or simply our own tears can easily smudge our eyeliners.
Using even waterproof eyeliners sometimes just don’t work or even turn out worse, then I began to realize that maybe it’s not just the product it might just be the way that I was applying the eyeliner that kept causing the smudge to occur.
So I decided to try different methods of applying the four different eyeliners on my waterline and get it to stay and not smudge at all. After many tries and errors made I ended up coming up with a method that really worked for me and made a world of a difference ever since. Especially when it comes to weddings and wedding makeup the method really keeps your eyeliner on the waterline and prevents it from smudging.
The method that I’m about to show you here is a little but simple trick to it, the trick is to make sure that you seal the eyeliner onto the waterline,
but how?
well, follow the little tutorial below to find out how to …
The Three Step Method To Apply Your Eyeliner Without Smudging Your Waterline
Below I’ve broken down how I applied the eyeliner to my waterline with the little trick, and it made a huge difference
Step One
The first step is to take the liquid eyeliner, for example, Estee Lauder’s little black liner thick Thin Ultra- fine liner and apply it to the top of your eyelid.

Step Two
Dip your waterproof pencil eyeliner into your gel eyeliner and apply the line to your waterline. This usually helps give a crisp fine line, for example, pencil in MAC Squid and gel eyeliner in MAC Blacktrack fluid line.

Step Three
Take an angle brush and dip it into a black eyeshadow and gently pat the shadow into the waterline. This usually helps seal the product into place, for example, MAC 266 Small Angle Brush MAC eyeshadow in Carbon.

Conclusion
After going through my own experience with various different eyeliners, I found that the method above really helps keep your eyeliner staying to your waterline all day and that it makes it alot darker which makes your eyes really stand out. If you use the method that I have mentioned look into the eyeliners that I have spoken about because they will certainly make a world of a difference for your eyes.
