Aging is something that is no doubt apart of life. One of the first signs of aging is that our skin becomes drier than normal. Our skin begins to loose its moisture as we get older and we begin to see one of the first signs of aging which is wrinkles.
So, this is how to reduce aging?
- Drink A lot of water
- Reduce Alcohol intake
- Don’t smoke
- Eat fresh foods high in vitamins and antioxidants
- Exercise
- Cleanse the skin
- Tone the skin
- Use serums for the skin
- Moisturize Daily
- Exfoliate the skin regularly
- Clarisonic Firming massage Brush
- Apply Eye Creams daily
- Apply Facial Oils
- Apply Weekly Face masks
- Use Moisturizing and Anti-aging foundation
- Make Sure Products Are Alcohol-free products
The reason we get wrinkles is that wrinkles are formed from dried lines which then eventually turn into wrinkles. There are certain things we can do to prevent aging and in some cases even slow down the process of aging from occurring. There are many factors we need to consider when trying to reverse the process of aging skin which we can control such as our stress levels, regular exercise, diet, and our skincare.
1. Drink A lot Of Water
The one thing our bodies need for survival is water. The average human body is 50 -65% water. If we don’t drink enough water this can cause dehydration which will make our skin drier. This can make our skin feel flakey and dry and give our skin that tight feeling. Drinking water also helps with blood circulation in which it helps with the stimulation of collegian.
Water also helps flush out toxins in our bodies that no longer serve our bodies and skin. Lastly, water also balances the skin with oils in our skin which provides natural hydration. Because most aged skin becomes dry this is something that really needs to be considered.
2. Reduce Alcohol Intake
There are many reasons why drinking alcohol is not the greatest for our bodies. If you’re a frequent drinker its best to reduce your alcohol intake. Alcohol is known to dehydrate the body which again can cause dry skin. Dry skin as we now know will turn into drylines and then wrinkles. Therefore, its best to keep our bodies hydrated because long term wise it will effect our skin overtime and its best to limit the amount of alcohol beverages we take in.
3. Do Not Smoke
If you’re a regular smoker this is one habit that should be broken for many reasons including in which it contributes to wrinkles. Smoking has a lot of negative effects when it comes to skins appearance because it defiantly contributes to wrinkled skin. Nicotine, which is found in cigarettes causes the blood vessels to become more narrow over time.
Eventually, this impairs the blood flow to the skin which the oxygen and nutrients aren’t delivered to it. This will cause the skin to sag and will cause premature wrinkles. Therefore, its best to drop this habit because it has many long term effects which are negative for our skin.
4. Eating Fresh Foods
Diet is a definite contributor to the appearance of our skin. As the saying goes, you are what you eat. Junk foods, in particular, play a role in the appearance of the skin. A diet with a lot of sugar can cause the blood to spike which will later cause inflammation in which it breaks down the collagen and elastin which will cause the skin to sag.
Instead, its best to look at a diet which is high in vitamins and antioxidants. It’s best to get these vitamins and antioxidants from raw food such as fruits and vegetables. Here are some vitamins that should be incorporated in your daily diet:
Vitamin C is important because it helps the skin have a radiant complexion and also helps your skin produce collagen. It can be found in grapefruits, oranges, pineapple, mango, strawberries, and blueberries.
Vitamin E is good for the skin because it helps protect the membranes of the skin. Its also known to heal the skin. You can find vitamin E in foods such as spinach, broccoli, seeds almonds, and walnuts.
Antioxidants are good for the skin because it’s known to protect the skin from free radicals which does further damage to the skin. Antioxidants reduce the signs of aging to our overall bodies. Antioxidants can be found in pomegranate, apples, and blueberries.
Having such vitamins and antioxidants incorporated in your daily diet can really help change the appearance of your skin over time.
Another way to help your skin get the skin to become more radiant and healthier looking is by taking a skin supplement. Before taking these types of supplements always consult with your doctor to see if it’s safe to take.
I personally take one every day for hair, nails and skin and the supplement I take is My Kind Organics Organic Plant Collagen Builder which allows my skin to look more radiant and healthy. When taking this supplement, I noticed my skin appeared more radiant and smoother this was after a good month of taking the supplements.
5. Exercise
Physical exercise is something that will also help with the appearance of the skin. Physical exercise helps blood flow to the skin. Increased blood flow not only nourishes the skin cells and keeps them vital but also carries oxygen and nutrients to the skin. Physical exercise at least three times a week will help your body deliver the right nutrients to the skin which can help prevent aging.
6. Cleansing the skin
Cleansing the skin is something that should be done daily to remove any dirt, oils, and makeup that maybe sitting on top of the skin. When it comes to mature or dry skin types its important to have a cleanser that helps hydrate the skin and not further dry the skin.
It’s wise to look for cleansers that are made for dry skin so that the cleanser hydrate the skin more. Most cleansers that are made for dry skin come in a cream like formulation or a cleansing lotion formula. Avoid formulas that are oil-free because this will make your skin even drier.
Estee Lauders Silky Hydrating Lotion Moisture Rich Foaming Cleanser is a foam cleanser that is rich with moisture which cleanses the skin without drying out the skin further. Another hydrating cleanser is The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Cream Cleanser Face Wash which also a hydrating face wash.
7. Toning the skin
Toning the skin is an important step when it comes to skincare. When we tone the skin it has many skin care benefits such as conditioning the skin and further cleansing the skin that the cleanser couldn’t remove. I personally find when I use a toner it removes makeup residue, oils, and dirt that may be sitting in the pores that the cleanser is unable to take off.
I also find that toners do help condition and give the skin slight hydration. This usually preps the skin for further hydration. Toning the skin also removes any extra dead skin cells that may be sitting on the skin after using a cleanser. For more dry and mature skin types it ideal to find a cleanser that adds more hydration to the skin leaving it soft.
A good example would be Estee Lauder Soft Clean Hydrating Lotion. This is suitable for dry and more mature skin types. Another good example of a hydrating toner would be The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Hydrating toner which uses the power of vitamin E to hydrate and tone the skin.
If there is one item that has made a huge difference in how my moisturizer applies its face serum. Face serums are normally not greasy and absorb into the skin easily. Some serums can be worn on its own or with a moisturizer. The purpose of face serums is so that it hydrates and delivers moisture to layers under the skin.
Face serums usually help diminish dry lines and fine lines which could potentially turn into wrinkles. A serum should be used twice a day once in the mornings with your daily moisturizer and at night with your nightly moisturizer. Using a face serum gives really makes your moisturizer work in ways you never would think. Serums absorb moisture into the skin and you will find that your moisturizer won’t be sitting on top of the skin.
One of the best face serums I have used is Estee Lauders Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex 2. This particular serum has hyaluronic acid which locks in your moisturizer into the skin which makes it supple and gives your skin a beautiful radiant glow. It’s also suitable for all skin types.
8. Daily moisturiser/ Nightly moisturiser
It is so important to apply a daily moisturizer during the day for your skin type. Your moisturizer is the one product you should never leave the house without applying especially if your skin is more dry or mature. The moist moisturizer has vitamins and antioxidants to help reduce further aging by protecting the skin from free radicals and environmental damage.
If your skin is more is dry and mature is good too look at moisturizers with SPF (sun protective factors ) in them. The higher the SPF the more protection your skin will receive. SPF15 is pretty standard in most moisturizers nowadays. The sun protective factor will prevent your skin from burning in the sun which is known to be a big factor in aging because when the skin is burned the cells become damaged which can create signs of aging.
If your experiencing signs of aging such as fine lines and some wrinkles its good to look into anti-aging formulas. I personally found that anti-aging formulation is thicker and are very moisturizing. Some of the ingredients that anti-aging creams have in them are retinoids, hydroxy acids, peptides, and vitamins.
Retinols are usually used in anti-aging formulas to help promote faster skin turnover. Its also known to be effective in treating skin problems like acne and with signs of aging.
Hydroxy acids are known to help reveal the fresher skin sitting underneath dried skin, it reveals more healthy looking skin.
Peptides are collagen that is broken amino acids broken down and there are proteins which are now molecules known as peptides which help significantly with aging.
Before going to bed it’s a good idea to also use a night cream. The difference between a day time moisturizer and a night cream is the day time moisturizers usually help protect the skin from free radicles and the sun while keeping the skin moisturized.
Whereas the night time moisturizers help is richer for additional hydration and focuses more on promoting rejuvenating the skin cells during the night because that is the time when our bodies including our skin rejuvenate. Most night creams help promote collagen during this process. Lastly, when applying moisturizer to the skin make sure you the moisturizer all over the face along with on the neck because our neck is also getting fine lines.
Here are some products that can help reduce aging based on your skin type:
Normal to Combination skin Estee Lauders Day wear for normal to combination. This is a good moisturizer that has antioxidants and vitamins that help prevent first signs of aging with an SPF of 15.
The night cream that I personally use for my normal to combination skin would be NightWear Plus Anti-Oxidant Night Detox Crème. It helps hydrate and detox the skin while asleep.
Dry skin types Estee Lauders Revitalizing Supreme + Global Anti-aging Cell Power Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 15. This cream is more for skin that is already showing signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. It helps with lines and wrinkles and discoloration and has an SPF that helps protect the skin from sun damage. It uses Moringa extract which helps promote the growth of collagen skin cells.

9. Exfoliation
One of the most important facts about having a great skin care regime is that the skin should always be exfoliated 1-2 times a week. By exfoliating the skin it will remove dead skin cells that sit on the surface of the skin. By removing this skin it will help reveal the fresher skin that sits beneath dry skin. This process allows skincare products such as serums and moisturizers to sink into the skin better.
If the dead skin cells aren’t removed overtime this will cause more dry skin which will cause drylines and then wrinkles. Or it will cause the texture of the skin to be flakey and the skin will look unflattering by being duller.
There are several ways of exfoliating the skin. The first way would be by using a gentle exfoliator such as The Body Shops Vitamin C Glow-Boosting Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Face Scrub. This exfoliator has micro particles and crushed garnet stones which help remove dead skin cells which help reveal a more radiant complexion. It has vitamin C which is an antioxidant that helps with collagen improves elasticity.
Another way to remove dead skin cells is by using an electrical brush like the Clarisonic. The Clarisonic has different brush heads that can exfoliate the skin. It’s an electrical device that spins gently and uses a brush head to gently exfoliate and cleanse the skin.
There is a timer on the device so that you don’t over exfoliate the skin. There are different brush heads for all skin types including sensitive skin types. I personally use the Radiance Brush head and found my skin looked more healthy and radiant looking and also found my skincare products to sink into the skin properly.
10. Clarisonic Firming Massage Brush Head.
This particular brush head works with the Clarisonic Mia Smart device. It’s supposed to work with the Clarisonic app in which it asks you a series question as to what your skin care goals are. The app and your device communicate and your device will automatically know what your skin care goals are. The Clarisonic Firming Massage Brush Head is supposed to use your skin care products in order to firm the skin. I have written an article about the brush heads which you can find over here.
It awakens the elasticity of the skin by using its patent sound technology. When using the device apply skin care products on and then allow the Clarisonic Firming Massage Head help massage the products further into the skin.
There is a built-in timer so you know roughly how long to use the massaging head on the face. In three minutes it 27,000 micro-lifting massages which help to relax the muscles and features. Using this device every day will help get rid of fine lines, wrinkles and helps lift sagging skin.
11. Apply Eye Creams Daily
When it comes to the first signs of aging the one area on our eye area. The reason being is because our eye area is the most delicate skin on our face and it’s a lot thinner. The skin being more thinner is more likely to see fine lines before wrinkles start to kick in.
To prevent fine lines from occurring its best to use an eye cream in the area because using a daily moisturizer may cause the eye area to be more sensitive. It’s a good idea to use an eye cream under makeup as well because this can also help the eye area stay more hydrated throughout the day.
The one eye cream I use is Advanced Night Repair Eye Synchronized Complex. This formulation targets different issues with the eye area such as dark circles, fine lines, puffiness and brightens the eye area. This formula blends in beautifully into the skin around the under eye area while the formula repairs damaged the skin.
12. Face Oils
Face oils are somewhat new to many people when it comes to adding it to a skincare routine. Face oils are nongreasy but still hydrate the skin. They can be worn underneath your moisturizer. Unlike a serum, face oils provide moisture to the outer layers of the skin whereas serums will go more deep within the skin.
I personally like using face oils after a good face mask because I know with a good face mask enough hydration is provided and face oil is a nice way to give provide the skin with a good layer of moisturization. Face oils help reduce key signs of aging and some of them have Hyaluronic Acid a way to help lock in moisture into the skin such as Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Recovery Mask In Oil.
13. Weekly Face Masks
Face masks have many skin care benefits if used weekly before going to bed. Face masks should always be applied on cleansed skin.
Clay masks remove any dirt and oils that may reside in the pores. Most of the clay masks out there leave the skin clean, exfoliated and moisturized. The clay mask I currently use is Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment. This has activated charcoal where it gets right into the pores and removes any dirt, makeup, and oils.
Cream Masks are usually a cream formula and are applied on the skin for about 20 mins. Some of the cream masks out there have tiny granules that help exfoliate the skin while the cream hydrates the skin. Once it’s washed off the skin it will keep the skin hydrated and supple.
Sheet Masks are usually used to help hydrate the skin and are done approximately once a week. Most of them focus on having skin care infused in the sheet mask and after 10-15min of being placed on top of the skin, you then have to remove the sheet mask and rub the excess product into the skin. There are a few really good inexpensive sheet masks such as Garnier Moisture Bomb The Super Hydrating Sheet Mask
14. DIY Face Mask For Dry Skin
2 table spoon of Coconut oil- is used for hydrating the skin
¼ Raw Honey- is a good nature moisturize
2-3 of Chamomile essential oil- just in case if the skin is sensitive
Mix these ingredients and leave it on the skin for about 10 to 15 mins it should help provide additional hydration to dry to sensitive skin types.
15. Anti-Aging Foundations
When it comes to makeup especially foundations there are a few things to keep in mind. Most mature skin types are dry so it’s a good idea to look at foundations that provide a lot of hydration, which means looking for a foundation with a serum infused or specially catered for dry skin types.
Creams, Gels and Liquid foundations are more likely to provide the skin with hydration versus a powdered foundation. Lastly try to go for foundations that have anti-aging ingredients such as sunscreen which can help prevent damaged skin, vitamins, antioxidants and peptides.
It Cosmetics has a CC cream that is known to be a color correcting foundation which has color correcting, anti-aging serums and an SPF of 50. This is a great full coverage foundation that has a lot of benefits in one product. It also keeps the skin hydrated and supple throughout the day.
Another example of a great hydrating foundation would be a gel formulation by Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation which is a light to medium coverage and is excellent for dry skin types because it has vitamins and serums infused in it.
16. Stay Away From Products With Alcohol.
As discussed, dry skin will eventually lead to fine lines and then wrinkles. It’s best to stay away from products that have alcohol in them because it will further dry out the skin. Look for products that are alcohol-free. I know for personally for myself I always look at makeup removers that are alcohol-free especially for the skin around my eye area.
Products with alcohol won’t only dry but can further irritate the skin if it’s already dry which can lead to eczema in some cases. The key is to always keep the skin hydrated and supple so that you can prevent fine lines from occurring.
In conclusion, when it comes to first signs of aging the one thing to look out for is fine lines. Fine lines occur because either there isn’t enough hydration in the skin and because collagen is not producing as it uses too. As our skin ages, it becomes drier hence the dry line and the fine lines later producing. It’s important to provide our skin with a good amount of hydration.
We do need to look at our diets to see what we can do to make our skin look more hydrated such as having more water to eating the right foods. Another way is by applying the correct skin care. The skin care should always be full of hydration and with ingredients such as vitamin C which can help with collagen production.
It’s also important to make sure moisturizers and foundations have SPF factors so that they can help prevent damaged skin. There are many ways to prevent our skin from aging but it’s up to us on how we take care of our skin.
