How To Make My Blush Stay All Day

Blush is one of those makeup items that all us women have in our makeup bags. This is the one product that is a must-have because it helps the complexion look more healthy and gives the skin a flush of color.  The one frustration I always seemed to encounter was that my blush never stayed on properly and I never understood what the heck was going on. Throughout the day it would either rub off and disappear or it looked blotchy and gross.

So, I researched how to make your blush stay on longer? and through trial and error, I found something that worked for myself which helped my blush to last alot longer

  1. Daily skincare regime
  2. Use a face primer
  3. Layering your blush
  4. Looking at long-lasting blush formulations
  5. Use a translucent powder
  6. Use a setting sprays

Why Does My Blush Fade

There are several reasons as to why your blush may fade off, sometimes it could simply just be the formulation of the blush. The pigmentation with some blushes causes the blush to fade quicker, which means the blush will have to be applied in layers because this will build the pigmentation. It’s best to look at long-lasting blushes that have a good color pay off.

Another formulation of blush that won’t last on the face is a cream blush. If a cream formulated blush is applied to the skin, it is more likely going to fade out throughout the day if it’s not set.  Cream blushes have more oils in them which require them to come off the skin quicker, therefore it’s best to always set the blush with a powder so that it stays on longer.

Another reason why blush may fade off the skin is because of the skin type that it may be placed on, on a more oily skin type the oils can change the formulation of the blush, this will change as well and be broken down due to the oils which cause the blush from fading off.  A good skincare regime usually can help reduce the oil secretion of oily skin types.

Should You Wear Blush

Blush is definitely a makeup essential, It gives your skin a healthy-looking complexion. Blush gives the overall faces complexion a beautiful flush of color, the purpose of blush is to give your overall makeup a fresh-faced look.  Blush is usually applied to the apples of the cheeks to give a rosy glow.  By adding blush to your every day look it will compliment your overall face makeup.

Why Does My Blush Look Blotchy

There are a few reasons why your blush could appear blotchy. One of the reasons is because the surface in which the makeup sits on, If you have a drier skin type it’s important to have a proper skincare regiment so that the skins surface is smooth so that the blush stays on the surface. If the skin has a lot of dry patches then the blush will most likely grab onto it creating a blotchy look.

It’s very important for dry skin to have a proper moisturizing regime to create a smooth canvass so that makeup can glide on to the skin and blend in properly.

Another reason to why blush may look blotchy is because the blush needs a primer to work with, face primers usually help smooth out fine lines and large pores which creates a beautiful surface for makeup to be applied on. By having a primer applied under the makeup it allows the makeup to adhere to the skin much longer and helps prevent a blotchy look..

Daily Skin Care Regime

When it comes to having a skincare regime you want to stick to having a weekly regime which consists of:

Exfoliation: This should be done at least twice a week to remove any dry texture that may be on your skin.  By exfoliating the skin it removes all the dead skin cells and reveals the more fresher skin underneath.  If this step is avoided it can make your blush look rough and can even make it fade off due to the texture of your skin.

Cleanser:  By cleansing the skin every day with the correct skin cleanser this will help the skin stay clean and remove any dirt and oils that may be sitting on the surface of the skin.

Toner: Toners should be used regularly to remove any dirt and oils that the cleanser cannot remove.  Toners work well in removing any dirt and oils that may be in the pores and can even help balance the pH levels of the skin.

Moisturizing: By moisturizing the skin regularly it provides the skin with hydration keeping the skin smooth and supple.

Having a basic skincare regime can change the texture of the skin making it smoother. This allows any makeup to apply smoother without having any texture to worry about.

Use A Face Primer

With primers, once the skin has been through a basic skincare regime it should leave the skin smooth so that any beauty products apply on the skin alot smoother.  In order to allow makeup to last even longer, it’s best to apply a face primer all over the face.

Face primers allow your makeup to last longer by filling in any textures such as large pores and any fine lines. Face primers do give the skin a smoother overall appearance.  Primers usually allow makeup to last longer on the skin by allowing the makeup adhere better to the skin.

Layering Your Blushes

If your looking to layer up your blush over your foundation you will want to be able to do that with ease, there are certain foundations that it can work best with and those are creams and liquids.

Blushes come in different formulations the two different ones are Cream and Powder below are the differences;

Cream formulations are usually a cream texture and are usually more pigmented.

Powdered formulations are usually a pressed pigment or a loose pigmented blush which is a finer dust particles.

When applying cream blush it’s important not to apply it on top of powdered foundation, because it can cause the blush to become cakey and blotchy.  The cream foundation will apply well on top of cream foundations and liquid foundations.

The best way to apply cream formulations is by pressing the blush into the skin. The warmth from your hands will melt the product into the skin. Cream blushes can be set into the skin with a powdered blush. This will seal your cream blush in and give your blush more color and more longevity

This trick can be seen as an extra layer of blush added to the skin.  This will not only allow your blush to last longer on the skin and will  bring out more pigmentation

Look At Long-Lasting Blush Formulations

Another thing to consider when you want your blush to last longer is looking at long-lasting formulations.  Such formulations would be lip/cheek stains which usually come in gel-like formulations that stain the cheeks once the product sets into the skin. Another formulation to look at is long-wear formulations that last for over 8hours.

If you’re looking at a gel cheek stain I would recommend looking at Benefits lip and cheek stain

There is a long-lasting blush that I have used and still do which I do recommend is the Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush

Using Setting Powder

Another way to get your blush to last long is by setting your blush with a translucent powder. Translucent powders usually are a finer dust particle which apply white or flesh-toned powders but when brushed off are translucent.

Translucent powders that are applied on top of any type of makeup and usually lock in and seal in the makeup including blush so it doesn’t fade off.

Using Setting Sprays

Lastly, the last way to get your blush to last all day is by setting it with a setting spray. Setting sprays help melt the makeup into the skin and allow your makeup to last longer. By adding this last step to your makeup routine it will also help your blush stay in place without worrying about it budging or smearing off.

Now knowing this information on a few ways to make your blush last longer, here are some different ways we can implement blush being applied to the face without fading or disappearing on you during the day. These tips would work well after a great skincare regime has been considered for a smoother canvass for makeup primer and foundation applied on it.

Three different ways to make your blush last longer

1st way of making your blush last longer

  1. Apply Cream Blush: Apply a cream blush on to the cheeks by using your fingers, this will help melt the product into the skin. Using your fingers to apply the cream blush, it will help prevent streaks that you would get from a blush.  A good example of cream blush would be Mac Cream Colored Base Blushes
  2. Layer a powdered blush: On top of the cream blush layer the powder blush aswell. This will help seal in the cream blush along the side of giving the blush more pigmentation. This gives the blush more longevity because now there are two layers of blush applied to the face. By using Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Blushes  this will definitely increase the longevity of the blush staying power
  3. Applying a Translucent Powder: By dusting translucent powder on top of the blushes this helps keep the blush intact and allows all the other layers of makeup to stay put even longer. Translucent powders are also great to use if you have a more oiler skin type because it will help absorb any excess oils that the skin may be secreting at this time. A great translucent powder to apply to the face would be Laura Mercier Translucent Powder.

2nd way of making your blush last longer

  1. Apply Cream Blush: Using your fingers apply a cream blush into the skin. This will help melt the product into your skin without you having to worry about brush streaks and would give a smoother application.
  2. Apply Translucent Powder: Apply translucent powder on top of the cream blush. This will help set the blush and seal it into place.
  3. Setting Spray: Considering your makeup is all done up including your blush it’s best to set everything into place with a setting spray. This will help reset the makeup and prevent it from looking cakey, It will also make your blush last longer and make it look fresh throughout the night.  A good setting spray to consider is Urban Decays All Nighter Setting Spray

3rd way of making your blush last longer

  1. Cheek Stain: Apply your cheek stain with your fingers. Make sure you work fast because it sets very quickly.  By using your fingers this also prevents the blush from streaking that would normally get from using a regular blush brush.
  2. Powdered Blush: Once the  cheek stain is applied to the cheeks and applies a powdered blush on top of the cheek stain. This will provide an additional layer of blush to the skin. Use a light hand because this will cause your blush to be very pigmented. This step will also help seal in your blush and keep in place.
  3. Translucent Powder: Apply a light layer of translucent powder on top of your blush.  This will help seal in everything and absorb any oils that may be on the surface of the skin.
  4. Setting Spray:  Apply a light layer of setting spray all over your face to set in your make up. This last step usually keeps everything in place including your blush.  By adding a setting spray as the last step to your makeup in general it will melt the makeup into place.

Conclusion

When it comes to applying blush and making it last all day there are a few things to consider. The first thing to implement is to make sure you have a proper skincare regime to create a smooth canvass for your makeup.

When it comes to applying any makeup it’s a good idea to look into face primers, this will help your makeup apply even more smoother and will give your makeup some longevity.  Once the foundation is applied to the face that’s when the perfect canvass for blush will be created.  When applying blush it’s best to layer your blush to have more longevity.

Using translucent powders will also help set the blush into place and help absorb excess oils that the skin may secrete. Lastly, always remember to set the makeup with a setting spray which will not only make your makeup in general hold longer but it will also help your blush last longer.
