How To Get Thicker Eyelashes With Mascara

There have been many times when I walk around and see other people with longer and thicker eyelashes and always wondered to myself how do they get those lashes to be so thick, so through my own trial and error, I taught myself how to apply the mascara to get thicker lashes.

How to get thicker eyelashes with mascara?  The best way is to curl your eyelashes so you can lift the lashes to make them look as if they are longer.  Then use a mascara that gives a lengthening look and volumizes that thickens and darkens your eyelashes.

I’ve put this post together for you on how I use mascara to get more thicker lashes and you can apply the same method and get true results.

How To Apply The Mascara To Your Lashes

When I was younger I didn’t really understand how to apply mascara and didn’t realize that I had to use a certain technique in order to see the true results of mascara.  Until one day when I was flipping through a beauty magazine and began to read tricks and tips on how to apply mascara.  I started applying certain tips and tricks to my daily routine and found the following steps to work best for me and hopefully, they can work for you.

First Step

Curl your eyelashes: This step can make a big difference in how mascara application goes on.  It curls the eyelashes and opens the eyes up more. It can even give an illusion that the eyelashes are longer than what they naturally are depending on the type of eyelashes you have.

Second Step

Use a primer: This helps build volume and to prevent the mascara from smudging. I found that this one extra step added more volume was easy to build coats on top of.

Third Step

Apply at least two coats of desired mascara: This is the step where it’s important to know the type of formulation you want which would be either waterproof or non-waterproof.  When applying mascara its best to start the application from the bottom of the lashes and wiggle the product up through the eyelashes. This allows every lash to be coated evenly with mascara and easier to build a second coat. It’s always best to wait for about a minute before applying the second coat of mascara.

Fourth Step

The mascara wand: This does not have enough comb-like bristles then its best to go over the eyelashes with an eyelash comb brush to remove any clumps of mascara.

How To Get Long Thick Eyelashes With Mascara?

You know that moment when you’re in your local convenient store getting your favorite slushy and your waiting in line to pay for it and you come across a magazine and on the cover it has the most beautiful model with the most beautiful longest and thickest lashes you have ever seen. It’s probably a false lash.  let’s face it we don’t have time to wear long false eyelashes every day who really does? If you struggle with thick short eyelashes like myself and want long thick eyelashes to be sure to continue reading what tricks, tips, and products actually work achieve beautiful long thick lashes.

The first thing we have to consider is to curl the eyelashes in order to lift the lashes. Curling the lashes has a great effect in making the lashes appear longer because when the eyelashes are curled it lifts he lashes back. To maintain this curl its always good to find the appropriate mascara that will help with the hold.

Ideally, when I am looking to hold the curl the best types of mascara I look at are lengthening and volumizing mascaras. Lengthening to give additional length and the volumizing to thicken and darken the eyelashes.

Nowadays on the market, there are different types of mascara wands that play a role in the application of a product, for instance, a “shaped” mascara wand has unique bristles that help build volume as you comb mascara through your lashes.  The shape of the wand can also help prevent clumps when applying mascara.

Another formula that has been a trend is fiber lashes. This type of mascara uses fibers that sit at the end of your eyelashes which stick at the end of the lashes lengthening them and giving them an eyelash extension type of look.

How Do You Make Your Eyelashes Thicker?

Having thin lashes like mine, the best way to make them stand out is by making them look thicker. The best way I found that worked in making my lashes thicker was after curling them I used a lash primer such as Loreals Voluminous base. The title of the mascara pretty much explains what its supposed to do for you the primer helps build volume.  I found that this primer worked really well as a base that not only kept the mascara from smudging but also as another way to build volume to my lashes.

This is where the formulation of mascara products can really help build that thickness and volume to the eyelashes.  In order to get a product to its maximum potential its best to use two coats of a product. In order to build volume to my lashes I personally use Loreals Voluminous Original in blackest black which works perfectly after with Loreals Voluminous base.

It’s also important to look at the color selection of mascaras the darker the pigmentation with the mascara it more it will make give the illusion of thicker lashes. The dark pigmentation in mascara can intensify every lash making eyelashes stand out more than they normally would.

How Do I Make My Eyelashes Look Longer And Fuller?

If your looking to make your eyelashes look longer and thicker its probably because you have thin and short lashes.  As mentioned, curling the eyelashes can make the eyelashes look longer because of the curling effect.  To maintain that length from the curl its good to look at a mascara that has lengthening effects.  I found that Loreals voluminous x fiber 2 in 1 fiber lash mascara had a primer on one side and a mascara on the second side. The mascara had microfibers that helped build lashes longer after the primer was applied.  The primer was a good base so that the mascara with the fiber particles stick to the primer and build length to the tip of the eyelashes making your lashes look longer and fuller. To add additional volume it’s a good idea to put two coats on to see the volume build with the mascara along with length.

Another product I currently use is NYX double stacked mascara which includes a mascara base and top coat.  There are many products out on the market that is similar to this product. The concept of this product is to use the top coat which is used first and works as a base and then to use the nylon lash fibers as a second coat.  With this product, the nylon fibers are usually on the mascara wand and are white in color.  Once the first coat is applied to the nylon fibers I use the top coat on top to seal the fibers into place.  The purpose of the fibers is to add length to the tip of your eyelashes while the top coat seals the fibers in.

I found fiber mascaras worked excellent for me when it came to building length and volume with two coats to see maximum results.

Mascara Wands And Purposes

When it comes to mascara wands there are so many to choose from nowadays. I personally found that sometimes the brush makes the biggest difference in how the application of mascara goes on. It can really polish a mascara look. There are a few tips and tricks to remember when looking at mascara wands for instance, the thicker the bristles the more the volume the wand can provide your lashes and comb-like bristles help prevent clumping with mascara. The following are mascara wands I currently own.

Thin mascara wand: A thin mascara wand works well for definition and length. I found it worked really well in getting the bottom lashes coated with mascara. This type of mascara wand can also work help tight line the top waterline which means you don’t need to use eyeliner because the mascara will give the illusion of eyeliner. An example of his type of wand would be by It Cosmetics   3 in 1  Black Primer Eyeliner.

Thick mascara wand: the thicker the wand the more volume the mascara is able to deliver. I found that Makeup Forever Smoky Extravagant was able to deliver a lot of volume due to its bristles and I was also able to achieve a doll-like look with this particular mascara wand. Due to the bristles of this wand, I was able to get every lash with two coats and the bristles were helpful in building the coats of mascara.

Hourglass shaped mascara wand:  An hourglass-shaped mascara wand can give multiple effects. In this case its ability to deliver lengths due to the slimness of the wand and a curl due to the curves in the wand.  Therefore, lashes are lifted for a curl and lengthened at the same time. Too Faced better than sex mascara wand is an example of this.

Curved mascara wand:  a curved mascara wand usually is good at curling the lashes. The bend in the mascara wand helps lift the eyelashes giving the lashes a curled fanned look while applying mascara. This would be ideal for people who have straight eyelashes and don’t want to use an eyelash curler every day.  An example of this is Maybelline Sensational Curvitude.

Spherical mascara wands: These wands look complicated because of the spiky ball at the end of the mascara wand. This kind of wand works well for a polished look and helps get those inner corner eyelash hairs along with the bottom lashes. If your looking for precision with coating every lash this wand would work well for that and touch-ups.  The one I currently use is Cover Girls So Lashy blast pro mascara.

Micro mascara wands: These wands are really tiny and can be used for precision, it can be time-consuming if you use it on the top lashes I found it ideal for bottom lashes and for those stubborn inner corner lashes. The small wand makes it easy for hard to reach eyelashes. The one I currently use is Clinique’s Bottom Lash mascara.
