So carry on reading to understand what threading is and how you can prevent these pimples from appearing on your face.

What Is Threading

Threading is a hair removal treatment that is commonly used on mainly the face.  Threading uses a knotting and twisting motion with cotton thread to remove your hair, this technique removes hair in sections and because of the way it removes it, the thread can give precision in a certain section where hair growth occurs. This is ideal for shaping eyebrows and achieving that ideal eyebrow frame.  It’s really good at removing those stubborn baby hairs that tweezers and waxing have difficulty getting out. The long-term effect of threading is that the hair grows back thinner because it is being removed out of the skin follicle.

Threading has become a popular way of cleaning up your eyebrows and shaping them because of the accuracy to create such a sharp looking eyebrow, it almost acts like a pair of scissors cutting away your hair but in a more cleaner and precise method.

Is Threading Good For Removing Facial Hair

Threading is a great way to remove facial hair, threading is very common in many salons. It’s a great way to shape and define the eyebrows, the twisting and turning of the thread will trap the hairs in a twist that allows hairs to be removed in small sections of at a time.

Threading is a great way to remove hair from the upper lip area because of the way of removing hair from small areas. It’s also a great way to remove small fine hairs that can be difficult to remove with tweezers. Threading is a great way to remove hair from the face without using chemicals, threading is also a great way to remove hair without burning the skin.

Why Do I Get Pimples After Threading

One of the main reasons as to why we can get pimples after threading is because when hair is removed from the skin it leaves the follicle open. When dirt and oils get into the follicle causing a slight break out. It’s really important to make sure you use an astringent such as witch hazel to cleanse the skin.

Another thing to avoid when it comes to threading and pimples is to make sure not to wax the skin after threading. The problem with waxing after threading is that it will get bacteria into the open follicle causing a bit of a breakout. By waxing the threaded area, it will also thin out the skin because it will remove one or two layers of the skin causing the pores to be more open.

Lastly, another reason why pimples occur after threading is because there may be makeup applied o the skin. When threading the skin that may have makeup on it, this can get into the skins follicles where the makeup is applied. This is another form of dirt and oils getting into the skin causing pimples to occur.

How Long Does Threading Last

When you do thread your eyebrows the hair growth would depend on the type of hair growth an individual has, it can take 2-6 weeks for hair to grow back.  For some people, it might take longer due to the fact that your hair might take longer to grow back.  There is no specific answer to this except that it all depends on the individual’s hair follicles.

How Long Does The Redness Last After Threading

When it comes to the redness after threading it can take anywhere between half an hour to an hour depending on your skin type. This all depends on if you have a sensitive skin type. Sensitive skin types usually take longer to heal from redness, because the hair is being removed from the follicle it’s what causes the redness and irritates the skin.

How Do You Prepare Your Face For Threading

The best way to prepare your skin is by making sure your skin is cleansed. Make sure there is no makeup on the skin because you don’t want this getting into the pores. Simply wash your face with your daily face cleanser this will help remove any dirt and prevent it from getting it into your pores. Once the skin is cleansed the one suggestion is to use an astringent like witch hazel. Witch hazel helps hydrate and tone the skin, it also gets rid of dirt and oils that may be residing in the pores. This will prevent the spread of dirt and oils clogging any open follicles.

When your getting your face threaded it’s important to have clean hands, the last thing you need is having dirty hands which spreads bacteria around the face. If you have sensitive skin where you graze quickly then it’s important to apply talc powder to the skin so that it acts as an additional barrier to the skin preventing it to graze.

I personally would suggest that talc powder should be applied to cleansed sensitive skin so that the skin in that area can be threaded safely.

What Are The Positives and Negatives To Threading

With threading, there are negatives and positives and fortunately the positives outway the negatives, that’s probably why threading is becoming more and more popular.

Positives to Threading

  • Removes hair with minimal pain
  • Gives complete accuracy with shaping the eyebrows
  • Threading is quick and precise saves a lot of time
  • Your eyebrows will stay in shape and clean a lot longer
  • Suitable for all types of skin and is less costly

Negatives of Threading

  • If you d have sensitive skin or your skin is not clean you may develop some rash or even some redness

What Is A Full Face Threading

Full face threading is a process where hair is removed with cotton string in a twisting and knotting motion. This usually removes hair from the root.  Therefore, the hair grown will grow back thinner and more sparse. In some cases, this treatment is done repeatedly after hair growth can also stop the entire growth process. The reason being is because every time hair is removed from the root the follicle gets weaker and weaker preventing further hair growth.

Breaks Outs From Threading And How To Heal

Before Threading

When I was younger and had more sensitive skin I found that when I used to get my eyebrows threaded I would either get cuts from threading or would start breaking out.  Only when I started to do threading myself on others I realized a few things that could prevent the cuts and breakouts.

The first thing is to make sure your skin is clean. That means no makeup what so ever before the threading treatment. The best thing to do is to cleanse the skin with the right cleanser and to tone the skin.  The reason I say it’s important to tone the skin is because toners usually clean off dead skin and remove any excess oils and dirt giving the skin a deep clean kind of feel.  This prevents further breakouts because the pores are now clean so chances of them being clogged during threading are a slim chance. As mentioned threading will open up the pores due to hair removal.

During The Threading Treatment

It’s also a good idea to find out from the person threading your face if the thread contains antibacterial properties. Some threads actually have antibacterial properties which can help prevent any further breakouts. The one I currently use is Vanity Threading Thread which has antibacterial treatments infused in the actual thread.

To also prevent further cuts and grazing the other product I was taught that prevented further cuts and grazing was Heat Sterilized Powder. This is a good product that gives your skin an extra layer of protection during threading and works as an antibacterial type of powder that is also used after any hair removal. This product works well with people who have thin skin as it gives an additional barrier to the skin during threading.

What To Apply On Face After Threading

Another treatment for after threading your eyebrows is using Aloe Vera Gel. It’s known to be an aftershave and help heals broken skin after shaving or any type of hair removal it doesn’t clog the pores either.  In fact, it helps soothe the skin and nourishes it with moisture. It’s best to avoid greasy products after hair removal and this is one of the better products to consider.

The one treatment I personally use after threading is Witch Hazel. Witch hazel is a natural toner which is high in antioxidants and helps soothe irritated skin. Its also known for using hair removal treatments. Witch Hazel also helps restore the PH balance on your face after cleansing.  When I use Witch Hazel on my skin after threading I notice the redness of my skin calms down within a couple of minutes, the Witch Hazel also helps cuts heal a lot fast and prevents any infections occurring.

If you find that your skin is swollen and still a bit red after applying Witch Hazel a good way to close up the pores is by placing an ice cube over the threaded area.  When the pores are closed it prevents any further dirt and oils really getting into the pores. I personally started to notice that there are more and more face soaps that have witch Hazel in it which I believe will help with any redness and cleansing the skin.  Such products can also help heal the skin during the healing process of threading.

Lastly, any products that contain a small amount of tea tree oil can also be beneficial to the skin after threading.  Seeing that Tea Tree oil is a natural antibacterial it can also help prevent any a pimple from occurring. In fact, it is occasionally used by myself to help get rid of a pimple on my skin.

The image below shows my eyebrows before I got them threaded, clearly, you can see that I needed my eyebrows cleaned up.

What Not To Do After Your Eyebrow Threading

When it comes to eyebrow threading it’s very important to not apply many products to the skin.  Always look at products that help soothe your skin the last thing you want to do is apply any form of fragrance hoping that it will help sooth it.

The following are a list of things not to do to the skin after threading:

  • Avoid any products with heavy fragrances: Because it may irritate the skin which could potentially cause more redness
  • Avoid Applying makeup: Try not to apply makeup to the skin as it might clog your pores and that is something that you would not want
  • Avoid self-tanning: As tempting as it may sound avoid self-tanning as it might also clog the pores
  • Avoid heavy moisturizers: Any heavy moisturizers can clog the pores depending on your skin type so try and avoid them if you can
  • Don’t exfoliate the skin: Avoid exfoliating the skin because it will further irritate the skin and remove more layers of your skin during the healing process
  • Don’t use hot water: Don’t wash your face with hot water or even lukewarm water on your face otherwise, your pores on your face will expand
