If you are struggling with trying to get your eyes to look bigger I have compiled 11 different ways that could help you make your eyes pop out and get noticed when people look at you.

Using Eyeliner Correctly

Tip 1. Don’t Outline The Whole Eye

If your eyes are small don’t outline the whole eye with the black liner because it’s only going to make them look smaller instead identify your eye shape and use eyeliner to enhance the shape giving the eyes are bigger and open than the normally look

Eyeliner adds definition to the lash line as well as complimenting the eyes itself. When applying eyeliner in the correct way it can help enhance an eye shape.  The best way to apply eyeliner and make it natural as possible is by using a pencil kohl liner.  The best thing about when applying pencil eyeliner is it can be smudged into the lash line. The trick to making the eyes appear more open with pencil liner is to focus on applying it on the outer V of the eyes.  It will give the illusion that the eye shape is more almond shaped and giving the illusion that the eyes are more opened. The eyeliner should be placed on the top outer V of the eyelid along with the bottom. It should also be smudged out. This will automatically give the illusion of more open and wider eyes.

If you choose to apply eyeliner on the entire eyelid its best have a very thin line going through the top lid because you want to focus of the eyeliner to be drifted to that outer V.

Coloured eyeliners are usually fun to play with and also has its benefits to help brighten the eyes. When applying a metallic or a bright eyeliner to the eyes can really open up the eye shape.  Another trick is to double the liner by applying a brighter eyeliner to the top lid of any existing black liner this can defiantly make a difference to the eyes looking bigger.

Mascara That Makes Your Eyes Bigger

Tip 2. Add One Coat To Eyelashes

Mascara has been around since the nineteenth century. Women always used them to enhance the lashes and to draw attention to the eyes.  This is especially effective with lashes that are lighter, just adding one coat to coloured eyelashes makes a big difference to the way your eyes will look by darkening them.

There are many types of formulations and brushes to help enhance every type of eyelash out there.  Applying just mascara to the eyes makes the biggest difference in how the eyes look. It automatically opens up the eyes making your eyes look more awake and enhance the eye shape right away.

The first step in applying mascara properly is by identifying the type of eyelashes you have.

So if you have:

Straight eyelashes– you can identify the problem by finding the mascara that curls the eyelashes. Mascara wands that are curved are known to help lift the lashes from the roots and the formulation is supposed to curl the eyelashes.

The way to help enhance thin lashes is by finding a mascara that is volumizing and a  mascara brush that is coned shaped that helps thickened the application of the mascara giving the lashes additional volume.

Short eyelashes– it is wise to look for mascaras that help lengthen the eyelashes.  Its good to also find a formula that lengthens and has fibers which can give the lashes the illusion of eyelash extensions by extending the fibres to the tips of the lashes.

To get the maximum benefits of your mascara its best to prep the eyelashes before any mascara application. The first step would be curling the eyelashes with an eyelash curler. This gives the lashes temporary curl. To hold this curl you would have to apply either a primer or mascara.  The primer would be the second step when applying the mascara so that your lashes appear thicker and the mascara can adhere to the lashes without flaking. The best way of applying the mascara wand horizontally close to the roots, then wiggle from side to side going upwards to the tip of the lashes do this about two times to get the maximum benefit of your mascara.

Using A White Eyeliner

Tip 3. Apply It To The Waterline

Adding these two extra steps to your daily mascara routine can make a world of a difference.

White eyeliner can do wonders when it comes to making the eyes look bigger. One of the main ways that it works is by applying it to the waterline. This one trick opens the eyes up instantly brightening it up.  When applying white eyeliner make sure the formulation is creamy in texture and full of pigmentation.  Applying white eyeliner to the eyes gives the illusion of doll-like eyes.

White eyeliner can also be used in the inner corners of the eyes. This also brightens the eyes or any eye makeup is done.  This also works well as a highlight colour in which it brings the features forward.  Nyx Jumbo pencil in milk is an excellent product for this. This has the benefit of an eyeliner and a highlighter depending on how it’s used.

Flesh-Toned Eyeliner

Tip 4. Apply Neutral Colour To The Waterline

Is a more natural approach of applying a neutral colour to the waterline. The application of a fleshed toned eyeliner to the upper and lower waterline can make the eyeballs look larger and brighter. Flesh toned liners are also used to make the lips look bigger when used under a lipstick therefore fleshed toned eyeliners have a multipurpose.

Using Eyeshadow To Make Your Eyes Bigger

Tip 5. Apply A Neutral Brown Colour

When applying eyeshadow to the eyelid its always good to go with a neutral brown colour to help sculpt an eye shape. The eyeshadow is supposed to give an illusion that the eye shape should be rounder and the ideal shape to try to maintain is an almond shape.  When applying brown eyeshadow to the eyelid make sure you look for the crease on top of the eyelid, then take the eyeshadow and apply it to the crease. Draw out the natural shape of the crease and then extend it with the brush blending it out. For smaller eyes, you might have to create a larger crease because it will make it seem like you have larger lid space to work with.   Using a brown shadow contours the eye shape sculpting the eyelids. This trick works on the illusion that you have larger lid space to work with. Many makeup artists today use this trick to make the eyes appear bigger

Inner Corner Highlight

Tip 6. Apply A Shimmer Shade

Inner corner highlight when it comes to highlighting features on the face, the main purpose is to bring features forward. If you had to sculpt the eyelid shape and created extra lid space applying a shimmer shade to the eyelid will bring more attention to the eyelids. Applying the highlight shade to the inner corner of the eyes also opens up the eyes making it seem more open and brightening them instantly. Another area to place a bit of a highlight colour is under the brow bone, this also brings attention to the eyes under natural lighting.

Using False Eyelashes

Tip 7. Apply Lashes That Seem Natural

False lashes can give the illusion of really flattering eyes. However, it can work on certain eye shapes and not on some.  For example, if you have a small eye and apply a heavy set of eyelashes it can work against the small eye shape making the eyes seem smaller than usual.  When applying false eyelashes its best to make the lashes seem as natural as possible.  You want to again focus on achieving that almond shape and placing light false eyelashes to the outer edge of the eyelid.

When using false eyelashes it would be best not to apply mascara to the bottom lashes because the purpose of the lashes is to open up the eyes.  The eyelashes should open up the eyes giving it a flared look. With false lashes, you may have to cut the false lashes in half so that the lashes focus on the outer part of the eyelashes.  When applying false lashes make sure to apply mascara to the top lashes to that everything comes together and looks as natural as possible.

A tip for all the hooded eyes individuals is applying the lash bad above the pupil at the centre of the eyes.

Almond eyes– for almond shaped eyes most lash bands fit properly it’s more important to make sure that the eyelash band blends in nicely with the eyes.

Round eyes– it’s important to focus on curly lashes to lift the eyelashes because that will open the eyes up more. Therefore, avoid volumes eyelashes.

Mono-lidded eyes– a heavy set of lashes can help with this eye shape as it will only open up the eyes. Layering the lashes works well with this eye shape.

Close-set eyes– it’s more important to avoid placing the lashes on the inner corner of the eyes because this can make them seem smaller. Focus on applying the lashes to the outer part of he eyes.

Protruding eyes– can go for more dramatic looking lashes to open the eyes up

Deep set eyes– look at lashes that curl up which will help open up the eyes.

Wide-set eyes– If you have wide set eyes its important to apply the false eyelashes more towards the inner corner of the eyes.

Using A Concealer

Tip 8. A Concealer That Helps Brighten The Area

When it comes to brightening up the eye area concealer is your best friend. Especially when you have under eye bags or dark circles. Trying many makeup tips and not working with concealer can still make your eyes seem smaller because all the attention of making he eyes appear bigger will be taken away because of dark pigmentation under the eyes. In such cases, it’s a good idea to find a concealer that helps brighten that area of the eyes. Sometimes just your standard concealer is not the only option.  Corrective concealer may be the solution in helping brighten up the eye area. The following is a guide of concealers that help various colour pigmentation under the eyes.

Pink– cancels out brown

Orange/Peach– cancels out blue (blue veins)

Yellow – can also cancel redness

Colour correcting concealers work best under your normal concealers.  By using these techniques it should help cover any dark circles under the eyes allowing giving your eyes more attention.

Another trick is using illuminating concealers, these types of concealers use reflective light to help brighten the under-eye area giving it a healthy-looking luminous finish.

When You Have Groomed Brows

Tip 9. Having Cleaned And Groomed Brows

Having cleaned groomed brows can make a world of a difference on any face. Eyebrows really frame the face and eyes giving it a clean finish. This one feature can transform the whole face. The correct shaped can be maintained through tweezing, waxing or threading.  Eyebrows can be defined with tint or the correct eye pencil and eyeshadows. If your eyebrows are not maintained correctly they can draw the wrong attention to your eyes.  For example, if you have thick eyebrows with a square shape it can make small eyes look even smaller because all the attention is now on the thick eyebrows.  If you have the wrong eyebrow shape it can it can also give you the wrong facial expression and bring the wrong attention to the eyes. Its always good to keep clean crisp eyebrows that are trimmed and shaped properly to compliment your eye shape and face shape.

How to maintain your eyebrows at home

Step1– comb through the eyebrows making sure the hairs are lying straight in the same direction

Step2–  hold a stick that can connect the side of the bridge of the nose the inner corner of the eye that’s where the starting point of the eyebrows should be.  The side of the nose is a good indication of where the eyebrows start.

Step 3– To locate the arch of the eyebrow look straight ahead into the mirror and join the bottom bridge of the nose with the pointed edge of the pupil.  The stick will help locate the arch by hitting the brow bone.

Step 4– by locating these three points on the eyebrows you will be able to fill in the brows with a shade of powder similar to your natural eyebrow colour.  From here you will also be able to determine a decent eyebrow shape that will compliment your face and eyes.

Maintaining the eyebrows can bring the right attention to the eyes and compliment any other tips that enhance the eyes.

Not To Wear Glasses

Tip 10. Get Rid Of Your Glasses

If you want to make your eyes stand out the one thing I realized after many years was to get rid of the glasses. Glasses do look elegant but can take away the eye shape away because the focus will be more on the glasses and the frames. Ditch the glasses if you want your make up to stand out because all that hard work you put towards making the eyes seem larger wont be seen under your glasses, therefore, contact lenses play a better role.

Using Eye Creams

Tip11. Use The Right Cream To Help That Area

Eye creams can do wonders to the eye area and the main purpose of it is to battle common skin problems around the area such as wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness.  With eye creams it takes approximately two weeks of consistent use in order to see results around the eye area, sometimes these common problems can draw the wrong attention to the eye area cancelling the beauty of a person’s eyes. Eye creams don’t cover the problems the same way makeup does, however, they are supposed to target the root problem.  A proper eye cream will also provide hydration which helps with fine lines and wrinkles. The eye skin around the eye area is very thin so it needs a different type of moisturizing that only eye creams can provide.  Eye creams that help with dark pigmentation usually have brightening ingredients that help lighten the dark pigmentation around the eye area.

There are a few DIY that can be done at home in order to battle some of these problems around the eye area.

DIY For Dark Circles

Step 1– Cleanse the skin

Step 2– Take a few drops of almond oil and place it on a cotton pad

Step 3– Dab the moist cotton around the eye area

This DIY works best before going to bed at night. Almond oil has natural bleaching ingredients that help brighten the eye area. The almond oil will also provide moisture to the skin around the eye area without clogging the pores.

DIY How to get rid of puffiness under the eyes

Step 1– soak two cotton pads in cold milk

Step 2– rest against closed eyes for approximately 10 mins

This technique will help cold compress the puffiness around the eye area.  The Lactic acid in milk will help reduce any pigmentation around the eye area and also help hydrate the skin at the same time.  Skincare always makes a difference in the texture of the skin so if you’re able to treat any skin problems such as wrinkles, dark circles and under-eye puffiness it can help the eye area brighten up looking fresh and youthful.  Which can also draw the right attention to your eyes making them stand out naturally.
