Why Does My Makeup Melt Off?

Throughout the day you will be wearing some form of makeup, be it eyeliner, throw in some blush, some lipstick and a bit of foundation not necessarily in that order of course. You will be looking good and feeling confident about yourself but, then comes a time when you begin to notice that your makeup is melting off your face, throughout the day and you have to try and touch up what you can.

The question is why does your makeup melt off ? The simple answer is that it will be a combination of many factors, such as if you have oily skin, you may need to change your foundation so you will need to change your foundation formulation. If you dont use a face primer under your makeup it will melt off because the primer helps the makeup stick to the skin.

Having Oily Skin

One of the many reasons why your makeup will melt off is because your skin type may be oily. If the makeup is applied on top of the oily skin it can deteriorate your makeup. This can make your makeup appear like it has melted off, In order to avoid this it’s best to look at skin care products that are oil free.

These types of products don’t have oils in them which could contribute to more oils being on the skin.  Also look at products that can help mattify the skin because this will help absorb any oils that may be on the surface of the skin.

Weather

Another big contributing factor why your makeup may be melting off your face is because of the hot weather. Hot and humid weather causes the skin to perspire, this is where oils surface on top of the skin to become oily. This sweat can mix in with your makeup causing it to melt off and even change the formulation.

It’s important to look at oil-free products in the summer. It’s also important to look at products that aren’t thick in formulation, Instead look at products that are light weight and have a matte finish.  A long wear formulation should also be considered because it will help the makeup stay on and last longer through out the day.

Wrong Makeup Foundation Formulations

When it comes to foundation it’s important to consider the formulation of your foundation. Cream based foundations usually will naturally have more oils in them.  It’s important to know because this formulation has more oils and if it’s applied on normal-oil skin types it will more likely melt off the face, Instead, always look at foundations that are suitable for your skin type.

Drier skin types should look at cream and liquid foundations. While normal to combination skin should look at liquid and powder foundations. Oily skin types should look at powdered foundation or foundations with a matte finish to help reduce the look of oils on the skin.

Not Using A Face Primer

When it comes to makeup application it’s always important to apply a face primer under your makeup, by applying a primer under your makeup this will help your makeup adhere onto the skin. Without a makeup primer you will find the makeup will smear off and melt off through out the day.

Depending on your skin type always consider the finish of your makeup primer, If your skin is more on the normal-dry side you can look at a luminous finish. For normal-oily skin types look at using a matte finish primer.

Not Blending Out The Makeup Correctly

Another reason why your makeup melts off your face is because you may have not blended out your makeup correctly. If the makeup is sitting on top of the skin then it will more likely melt off the skin through out the day. When blending out makeup some of the best tools to blend out makeup would be a beauty blender.

These sponges work well when they are dampened, the dampness from the sponge will help thin out the makeup products and blend out the makeup evenly on the skin by using a bouncing and dabbing motion.  When it comes to liquid and cream formulations look at using a buffing brush to blend out makeup evenly into the skin.

When it comes to powdered makeup formulations use a kabukhi brush to blend out loose powders into the skin properly.

Not Setting The Foundation

Another reason why your makeup may be melting off through out the day is because you may have not set the makeup. Setting the makeup will allow your makeup to stay in place.  So the best thing to do is to set it either with a setting spray or with a translucent powder. Setting sprays allow your makeup to melt into the skin and stay in place all day.

While setting the makeup with translucent powder will help absorb the oils that may be sitting on the surface of the skin while allowing the makeup to stay in place all day. Implementing this step to your makeup regime will help the makeup last longer and prevent it from melting off through out the day.

Not Using A Waterproof Formulation

Another thing to consider when it comes to your makeup from melting off is using a product that is waterproof.  If the makeup is not waterproof it has a higher chance of melting off. Waterproof makeup formulations will usually have longer staying power.

Once the formulation of the makeup is waterproof and it settles into the skin it wont come off.  Waterproof formulations should not be overlooked because this can change the way your makeup will apply and prevent it from melting off throughout the day.

Not Using Blotting Paper

When it comes to your makeup melting off always make sure to consider using blotting paper. Blotting papers usually are used before and after makeup applications so that it absorbs oils that may appear on the surface of the skin.

Blotting paper can be used prior to makeup application so that it absorbs any oils that may surface on the skin which will help the makeup application apply much better.  After makeup is applied it’s a good idea to use blotting papers to blot any excess oils that may have surfaced.

If you suffer from very oily skin it’s a good idea to keep the blotting papers in your bag thoughout that day because it will help absorb any other oils during the day that may have surfaced and the oils.  This can help prevent your makeup from melting throughout the day.
